Not all trams carried passengers. Tramways had a number of works cars and service vehicles used to keep the system running. Some were purpose built either by tram manufacturers or the tramways themselves. Others were modified from old passenger trams, in the case of double-deckers often cut down to single-deck.

Works cars were used for purposes such as carrying goods or supplies, snow clearing, track washing and rail grinding.

These are views of tramway works cars, old and new, from a variety of sources but with special thanks to the TLRS Archive.
