SUSSEX AREA GROUP
The Sussex Area Group was formed in 1991 and has an informal and friendly membership of around 50 people.
Meetings are held on a regular monthly basis every second Wednesday of the month, and are located in the Southwick Community Centre, Southwick, Brighton. Meetings commence at 7.40pm. We aim to have an invited guest speaker for most of our meetings and our topics include many facets of historic to modern tramways including trolleybuses. We have close links with the other transport interest clubs of Sussex, and a number of our members also belong to the Tramway Museum Society and the Light Rail Transit Association. The Sussex Area Group has its own colour newsletter entitled 'Tramlines' which is published every six months and comprises of articles of current and past interest submitted by the Group membership.
Many of the members are keen tram modellers and the Group attends exhibitions throughout the year, displaying members' own layouts ranging in scale from 4mm to 3/4" to 1' scale. Some members have regularly exhibited at the Festival of Model Tramways, notably Peter Fickweiler with 'Petertown' (7mm), John Butler with 'Westby' (4mm) and Terry Russell who is well known for his tram drawings and kits.
